The Kitty Letter with
Timmy the Tabby

A hearty hello cat fans!

Have you let go of summer yet? It’s no easy task!

That said, there are a few things I like about fall. For example, the mice are plentiful and that keeps me busy. I like to pretend I’m the cat version of Schwarzenegger’s Terminator. Hasta La Vista…micey? I’ll work on it.

Fall also means pumpkins, and I LOVE pumpkins! Why pumpkins? Well, mother always brings the BIGGEST ones home, carves them out, and then lets me hide in them. So, when the neighbor’s dog, Eddie, comes sniffing around our front door, I pop out and yell VACUUM…hehe, works every time.

On a sincere note, there’s nothing better than snuggling with mother during the fall, particularly when the temperature outside is comparable to the artic. Am I exaggerating? Maybe, but I truly hate the cold, nearly as much as I hate winged beasts like owls, falcons, pretty much any predatory bird that I’ve mentioned in my previous articles.

Now, to the news!

We cats love being able to come and go as we please via our cat flap doors. It’s just easy and convenient.

The problem, at least in my case, is mother doesn’t want anyone but me coming through that cat flap. Let me tell ya, the last time I had a FEW furry feline friends over, she was not pleased. Apparently, our house is a “no party” zone when mother is at the movies. Who knew?

Well, it wouldn’t much matter now, because word on the street is a man from England named Dr. Nick Hill has developed something called the SureFlap.

Essentially, it’s a mechanical cat flap that will only open for cats whose microchips activate it. It’s similar to the other “selective pet door” technologies used with cat collars, but clearly, once we cats are microchipped, we won’t be able to have company. Unlike collars, which can be slipped from one sly cat to the next (oldest trick in the book,) microchips are immovable and, well, permanent.

Sounds like a good idea for the party pooping pet owner, but the questions is, will the product bode well in the U.S.? In Britain, nearly half of the cats have microchips as it’s required to move pets across European borders, but here in the states, only 12 percent of cats have the implant.

It’s a great idea, but here’s one cat that’s hoping it’s a no go!

Until next time, I’m Timmy the Tabby, party on my friends.
