I was very disappointed in this incubator as a hatcher. It is even advertised as being "ideal for a hatcher", but I would NOT recommend it. I have 2 other Brinsea incubators that I leave eggs in until lockdown and absolutely love them and expected the same thoughtful craftmanship in this one. The Worst thing about it, is that you can't get the humidity high enough, it does have an external water top-up that I love, but it only fills one side of the SMALL "pot" in the middle. I have to add a bowl of water with a sponge (which is tricky because of the design of the lid. This takes away space from eggs and creates a possible drowning factor. I can deal with these things, but even after adding all the water I do, it does not last the 4 days causing you to have to open it. Keeping the top-up filled only refills half the side of the small pot and none to my bowl obviously. The resivors are no where near as large as the ones on their other incubators and not near big enough for lockdown. You have to fill both sides for regular incubation and it's not enough. This is a definite design flaw. When I called to speak to someone about the issue I was told to buy the evaporating pads to supplement humidity. Tried that, although I shouldn't have to - the design should allow for enough space to increase humidity like in their other models. When I asked about sending it back they said that since I had used it I wouldn't be able to. To be honest, I expected the excellant quality/design that I had experianced from their other incubators. I'm not sure how I was supposed to know by just looking at it - without using it - that there would be issues. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I NEVER thought I would say this about ANY Brinsea product as I generally LOVE them.

Incubation FAQs

Q - Where can I get advice on hatching eggs, I've never tried it before?

A - All you need is in our Incubation Handbook, which is free to download.

Q - How do I prepare my incubator for hatching?

A - Please refer to Pre-season checks for your incubator, a comprehensive guide to preparing your incubator for hatching.

Q - How long can eggs be stored?

A - Most species may be safely stored for up to 10 days before serious reductions in hatch rates are likely but it is always best to set fertile eggs in an incubator within 24-48 hours of obtaining them. Daily turning of stored eggs also helps maintain hatchability. Store eggs in cool, damp conditions.
