How to Clean and Store Your Egg Incubator
Whether you’re incubating as a hobby or a business, proper cleaning and storage after a hatch are essential for preventing bacterial contamination and ensuring your equipment lasts. This guide provides a simple, step-by-step process.
Key Cleaning & Storage Tips
- Clean Immediately: Sanitize your incubator right after a hatch to prevent bacteria from growing in the warm, humid environment.
- Use the Right Cleaner: A diluted bleach solution (1:100) is recommended. Avoid alcohol-based cleaners, which can damage the plastic.
- Never Use a Dishwasher: Do not place any incubator parts in the dishwasher.
- Store Properly: Once completely dry, store the incubator and all its parts together in a cool, dry place where it won't be damaged.
Post-Hatch Cleaning: A Step-by-Step Guide
-
Remove Debris & Disinfect Parts
Immediately remove all shells and other debris. Our hatching mats make this easy. Soak egg trays and other non-electrical parts in a disinfectant solution (1 part bleach to 100 parts water) for an hour, then rinse thoroughly.
Warning: Do not use alcohol-based cleaners, which can damage the plastic, and never place parts in the dishwasher. -
Clean Electrical Components
Use compressed air to blow fluff and debris from the fan and electrical housing. You can also use a damp cloth with the diluted bleach solution to gently wipe these parts. While not required, you can remove the fan for more thorough cleaning, but be sure to note its orientation so you can replace it correctly for proper airflow.
-
Dry All Parts Thoroughly
You can either leave the incubator disassembled to air dry completely, or reassemble it and run it for a day without water. For EX models, ensure the humidity pump is not hooked up during this drying cycle.
-
Store Safely
Once completely dry, store the incubator and all its parts together in a single box. Keep it in a cool, dry place where it won’t be knocked over or damaged. Taking extra care to store everything together prevents losing small, essential parts.

Check for Replacement Parts
Before storing, check if you need to replace any consumable parts like the hatching mat, evaporating block, or silicone tubing. If you need something you can’t find on our website, please contact us.
